Books

So I've been reading two books, one is Game of Thrones (the first one) and the other is from Tales of Earthsea (the first one). I thought I would like the Game of Thrones books, but aside from me not liking to read, I found the book very confusing and boring. There's hardly any action in what I've read of it, and each chapter switches the story to a different character who is in a completely different city with completely different families and what-not. Not to mention how many other characters need to be remembered to actually understand each chapter. It's awful, and I can honestly say I do not like the Game of Thrones books from my experience with the first.

Now with Tales of Earthsea, this book is quite nice. There is absolutely no confusion anywhere in the story from what I've read, and this book even deals with MAGIC. Cool stuff. It's such a linear story that's super easy to follow, and the first page in the book is a MAP. A MAP. Thank you, Tales of Earthsea, for helping me understand what I'm reading and where I'm at, literally, in the book. If the Game of Thrones book had a map in it, I might like it more and would be able to understand much more. Anyhow, Tales of Earthsea is a cool and easy story in which a kid finds out he's a mage and trains to become a wizard. He accidently unleashes a great and terrible shadow into the world and now the shadow seeks out the main character, Ged, to take over his being. Ged runs and hides from the shadow, but now finds he must fight the shadow if he wishes not to run for the rest of his life. Good book. There's five in the series, I think.

Graduation

With graduation just around the corner, there is much to be excited about. I am elated to know that I will finally be able to start doing the things I want to do and learn about. High school usually doesn't have these opportunities available, so college is a great place to really find out what you want to do for a living. I suppose I am most excited to live on my own, make my own decisions, and live a little. I'm going to be much more active; going to events, sports games, the like. Hopefully I can be involved in a group with some great people and meet new friends with completely different backgrounds. All in all, I'm excited for what college has to offer, though the tough Gen. Ed. classes are taunting! Should be easy enough I hope.

The Kite Runner

I've been reading The Kite Runner and have gone through chapter 19. Amir finds that he must take in Hassan's orphaned son, Sohrab, in order to begin his redemption of his past mistakes with his best friend. The story is getting good now, with friendship, guilt, and redemption being the main focus of the book I think.

The Kite Runner

I've been reading The Kite Runner and have gone through chapter 16.  Amir has gone to America with his father, but his father died after Amir wedded his soul mate, Soraya. Amir at this point is becoming a better person.

The Kite Runner

I've been reading The Kite Runner and have gone through chapter 9. So far I think the main character, Amir, is very selfish, self-centered, and arrogant. He thinks of Hassan as a friend, but he has never been nice to him. Amir watched in confusion, yeah, confusion, as Hassan was raped in an alleyway. Amir did not step in, but instead ran away. Hassan came back to the house crying and Amir did his best to avoid him. Amir ultimately got Hassan and his father ousted from their home. I do NOT like Amir one iota.

About Me

Hi! My name is Evan Jansen and I'm 17 years old. I'll be 18 soon because my birthday is on November 12. I enjoy playing video games on the Wii U and PS3, spending time with friends, and playing tennis. I'm very interested in graphic design and enjoy learning about human psychology. I go to Cascade Jr./Sr. High School and am a senior this year, so I will be graduating in 2014. I don't work during the school year because it is too much of a hassle for me since I am involved in the Drama Club. Drama practices are usually right after school, so it's hard to get work hours in. Something interesting about me is that I am the Cascade Marching Band's Drum Major this year whereas both of my older brothers were before me! Whelp, that be about it, so... bye!
